sustainability

Ecology Centred Design is the term we use for sustainable product design and production. We believe that perfect results on every single aspect of a brand or production chain is simply not yet possible. Instead, we strive for a holistic approach to sustainable development with the best possible result for the planet and people.

At Studio Gyzell we rethink product development where design, functionality, quality, style and maintenance all serve the same goal: making conscious choices possible and attractive to customers.

We see product development as a dynamic process. We will keep on improving our design, sourcing and manufacturing practices.

Locating product development, sourcing and manufacturing in Europe has many benefits due to the strict environmental and social regulations. Besides that, it brings raw materials, production location and customers closer to each other, reducing the impact of transportation as well. We even go a step further by selecting suppliers who share our philosophy. This way we include social responsibility criteria in our purchasing process. And we are transparent on all steps of our production process.

MATERIALS

Finding the right materials to make the bags was a long, long process. After evaluating different type of materials, our conclusion was that genuine leather was the best option. This is mainly because we haven’t found a material yet that offers the same long-lasting quality. Vegan alternatives are mostly new and manmade with their own environmental impact. For our first collection we use bovine leather and fish leather, both upcycled waste materials of the European food industry.

We will continue our search for alternative materials in the future.

Our bovine and fish leather are both sustainable on their own way. Our Italian and Icelandic suppliers built high environmental and social standards in their whole production cycle. Tanning- whether vegetable tanning or not- is just one of the many steps in the complex leather production chain  For us, this simply isn’t enough when we are looking for the right leather production partners. We selected suppliers who implement sustainability in their whole production chain, not only in tanning methods. Focusing on waste and water management, responsible use of chemicals, air pollution and CO2 emission, and social policy.

TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres are made in Austria by an environmentally responsible closed loop production process, which transforms wood pulp into cellulosic fibres with high resource efficiency and low ecological impact. This solvent-spinning process recycles process water and reuses the solvent at a recovery rate of more than 99%. TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres are very strong and durable and have a long- lasting quality.

CARE AND REPAIR

Studio Gyzell bags are made to last. The materials we use are chosen with the greatest care. Your bag should age beautifully by following our recommendations. As all natural products leather can show some irregularities. We do not consider these signs as fault, actually we see them as the beauty of natural material.

To prolong the beauty of your bag we recommend the following:

Avoid placing leather in direct sun

Our bags are not water-resistant. If exposed to water, leave wet leather to dry

Please use mild cleaning products that are especially developed for leather. The use of other cleaning agents, disinfectants, conditioners or protectants (not developed for leather) is not recommended. It can degrade the performance and look of your leather bag and may void our warranty.naturally (do not use artificial heat). Stuffing your bags can help keep their shape.

Protect the product from heavy rain. Suede (bovine and salmon) is more sensitive to water.

Keep the leather away from direct heat

Dust off regularly with a soft and dry cloth. Please use mild cleaning products that are especially developed for leather. The use of other cleaning agents, disinfectants, conditioners or protectants (not developed for leather) is not recommended. It can degrade the performance and look of your leather bag and may void our warranty.

Store the bag in the dust bag

Keep distance between magnetic parts of different pieces when stored

Do not use leather fat on fish leather

Take extra care with light coloured items, which tend to mark more easily.
Do not overfill your handbag, as it may lose shape.

Do not expose your bag to makeup, oil or dyes to prevent staining.
